(CR) MICO expands the world of his debut album today with When the lights turn on (deluxe), out now via Columbia Records. The new edition adds five tracks to the 23-year-old Filipino-Canadian artist's debut, extending the deeply personal storytelling at the heart of the original album with more reflections on relationships, distance, and the growing pains that come with a life changing in real time.
Focus track "Sorry" captures the moment MICO stops accepting an apology without changed behavior. After too many wasted chances, he draws a hard line between words and actions, singing, "You say you're sorry, but you're not / I bet that you're only ever crying when you're caught / way too many chances to be trying, but you're not." The track joins "Hate my guts," "Hello, goodbye," "IYKYK," and recent single "Everything's the same" on the expanded release.
Released in June, When the lights turn on turned a whirlwind period of MICO's life into his most personal body of work. Pulling from the hook-heavy nostalgia of 2000s and 2010s pop punk alongside modern alt pop, hyperpop, and alternative influences, the album traces heartbreak, identity, nostalgia, online perception versus reality, and the disorienting experience of outgrowing what once felt like home. The deluxe adds another layer to that story, offering five more snapshots from a period of MICO's life that continues to change in real time.
The release comes in the midst of MICO's nearly 40-date Running From A Feeling Tour, spanning the United States, Canada, Singapore, the Philippines, and Australia, including special shows in his hometown of Toronto and in Manila. His time on the road will continue well into next year with the recently announced IN:BETWEEN TOUR, kicking off in January 2027 with dates across Europe and the UK before continuing throughout the U.S.
2026 has already proven to be a milestone year for MICO. He earned his first JUNO Award nomination for Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year, was named Spotify RADAR Canada's Artist of the Month in March, made his debut performance at Osheaga Music and Arts Festival, and released his first full-length album, all while bringing his music to an increasingly global audience.
